What is Arts-in-Health?

Arts in health is a diverse, multidisciplinary field dedicated to transforming health through the arts in healthcare and community settings to enhance health and well-being in diverse institutional and community contexts (NOAH, 2017).

Co-Program Director of the Disabled Creatives Alliance

August 2024- Present

Engaged in a collaborative IRB-approved research project that enhanced disabled participants' engagement in the arts-in-health field through a global mixed-methods hybrid program across four countries.

Global Arts in Medicine Fellowship

August 2024 - November 2024

Presenter at the Ohio University's International Arts Symposium in April 2025

Explored the field of Arts in Medicine through a hybrid fellowship led by Dr. Kunle Adewale and his non-profit Arts in Medicine. This unique fellowship and cohort included thematic arts-in-health collaborative projects with fellows during a 16-week program.

Education

Program Director of Art for Climate Resilience

September 2024 - Present

As the Program Director for Art for Climate Resilience, I launched, designed, and developed a pilot program based in Houston, Texas to support Third and Fifth Ward in community health and resilience.

It's a unique Co-design Interdisciplinary Trauma-Informed Participatory Art Program for Climate Adaptation and Community Resilience.

Trauma-Aware Practitioner Certification

April 2025

How does trauma affect the research process, and what can we do to ensure our methods are sensitive to those who have experienced it? Through a 1.5-hour introduction to trauma-sensitive research, I learned:

  • The foundational principles of trauma-sensitive research

  • Explored trauma theory and its relevance in research practices.

  • Gained practical insights into trauma-sensitive techniques.

As an Arts-in-Health professional I embrace the whole person and celebrate their unique identity in an atmosphere of mutual respect.

I will respect your autonomy and choice in participating in the arts-in-health experience.

Safety

During the arts-in-health experience (and otherwise), I will intentionally and unintentionally avoid causing you harm to your health and well-being.

Our Code of Ethics

These Code of Ethics are adapted versions from the National Organization of Arts in Health (NOAH) Code of Ethics and Standards for Arts in Health Professionals.

Confidentiality

I will honor the integrity of your experiences, ask for consent to share information, and follow the rules of institutions and partnerships on behalf of patients, staff, and participants.

As an Arts-in-Health professional, I will promote the inclusion of all individuals to the fullest extent possible, acknowledging and valuing, your engagement and participation. Regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, language, sexuality, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, political belief, religion, immigration status, ability, or socioeconomic status.

Competence

I will apply my professional knowledge and skills to ensure participant safety and program effectiveness while honoring the expertise and boundaries of my field of Arts-in-Health. I respect the qualifications of others and will guide participants to the care they need while not engaging in practices beyond my qualifications.

Integrity

As a person, I hold myself to a high degree of integrity and that extends into my Arts-in-Health profession. I act with honesty and responsibility adhering to these ethics, because it matters.

I will promote fair and just actions with respect to the field of arts-in-health, planetary health, and life's abundance of diversity from people to plants.
